Space and Water Heating

With fossil fuels being phased out, heat pumps are fast becoming the main type of space and water heating systems for new dwellings in Ireland. Heat-pumps are electrical devices which convent energy from the air outside of your home into useful heat, in the same way a fridge extracts heat from its inside. In well insulated houses they are very economical to run. They are an extremely efficient alternative to oil, gas, solid fuel and electric home heating systems. We can calculate the room by room space heating requirements for your new build dwelling.

Controls

To comply with TGD Part L, new dwelling should have time and temperature zoned heating control. Time and temperature controls installed on immersion heaters allow homeowners to pre-set the time period required for water heating and the temperature to which water is heated. This means that water need not be heated for longer than required or to higher temperatures than required. Temperatures for hot water should be set to around 60oC.

Ventilation

To comply with nZEB 2019 Part F - Ventilation, a new dwelling must achieve an air tightness result equal to or less than 5m3/hr/m2. Natural ventilation can only be used for new dwellings when the air tightness result is between 5 and 3m3/hr/m2, if your air tightness result is lower than 3m3/hr/m2 mechanical ventilation must be used. The main types of mechanical ventilation are CMEV, DCV and MVHR. we can carry out ventilation calculations to ensure compliance with Part F requirements.

Lighting

A1 Energy Consultants can produce a low energy Lighting design for your project using LED of CFL lighting wherever possible, this is a very cost efficient way to reduce the dwellings energy consumption. We can also carry out orientation analysis to understand the buildings orientation potential for passive energy utilisation, shading and sun path analysis and daylight optimisation to reduce energy consumption from artificial lighting.
